Andrea Leadsom claiming this vote is to restore confidence in the way MPs are held to account is baffling. Allowing confirmation of a unanimous report recommending suspension of Owen Paterson for ‘egregious breach’ of rules would have been a more effective way of achieving that.

"[Owen Paterson] repeatedly over a sustained period lobbied officials and minister on behalf of his paying clients... from whom he was receiving more than £9,000 a month, as he still is" Standards Committee chair Chris Bryant on charges facing the Tory MP bbc.in/3mHpsvM

Absolute silence as House listens to Chris Bryant says amendment will "drive coach and horses" through standards system. "Retrospective legislation to favour or damage an individual because they are a friend or a foe is immoral and the polar opposite of the rule of law."

Can’t see this ending well for Parliament, democracy, and probably even the Tories. It was a public backlash against sleaze that brought them down last time & I suspect it will again.

Brilliant, thank you ⁦Charlotte Ivers⁩ “There aren’t many companies where you can vote out HR if it tries to censure you” thetimes.co.uk/article/b42fbf…

Update: Impressively speedy & personal written reply (actual letter through the post) from my MP. Sadly content is so defensive & lacking insight into the problem. Clearly still toeing party line. Perhaps if he’d waiting another 48hrs he’d have got the retreat & repent memo.

Trying to get a Minister’s checked luggage off a BA flight because he’d ripped his trousers in the VIP lounge toilet & was holding the flight up. Things they don’t cover in civil service basic training! Matt Chorley Times Radio #worstflights

If your management model assumes your employees can’t be trusted, you are in big trouble. If it also assumes that the future is predictable, you are in even bigger trouble.

Ministers spend billions ‘with no idea about value’. Article says there has been no more info about a proposed ‘evaluation unit’ - disappointing; there’s been an established (but too often ignored) ⁦What Works⁩ Network for whole Tory Gov. thetimes.co.uk/article/351774…

There is still some real political news hiding in all this party mess; don’t miss this letter of direction on NHS spending. Really significant. The Guardian #civilservicelearning
