My 2023 listener summary from Spotify - most listened to song was I'd Bet My Land & Titles by The Paranoid Style followed by 50 White Lines by kathryn williams. Both fantastic songs, go listen to them. My most listened to artist of 2023 was Bob Dylan, who needs no further promoting.
Bandcamp Friday - support indie artists on indie labels. Our debut album is available on limited edition orange vinyl, on Irregular Patterns. It has extra tracks, including At the Slightest Hint... which is both quite long and pretty awesome. #BandcampFriday paperfishes.bandcamp.com/album/instant-…
Still looking for the perfect gift for your vinyl-loving indie-rock fan? We have the solution, available from Irregular Patterns on limited edition orange vinyl. Buy it now, before it's melted down to make quirky novelty bowls by impatient studio execs! paperfishes.bandcamp.com/album/instant-…
Audio cassette of the day: Secret Arcade by The Hydrogen Trees. Inventive and genuinely lo-fi indie fabulousness. Reminds be a bit of the Flaming Lips but I like this more. Limited edition tape available from Irregular Patterns.
We're now excited new members of Americana Music UK. I didn't realise you could sign up online or if have done this ages ago. Bring on the Americana joy!
13 songs? 40 minutes?? Have The Paranoid Style gone full-on prog-rock concept album on us??? Fear not, gentle reader, they remain the punchy, inventive, super-literate, rock'n'rollin' freewheelers they ever were. Elizabeth Nelson, the new new Bob Dylan. You didn't hear it here first.
Very much enjoyed the debate on the pluralising of the word 'fish' on Fighting Talk this week. Thanks to all involved, especially Kate Mason, Rick Edwards, and Bob Mills. It was a subject I looked into in some detail when deciding on a band name.
Finally got over to thegrapesbath to watch Matt Owens play their monthly Friday night show. Great stuff, the place was jumping, barroom blues-rock par excellence.
Was due to speak at The New Statesman conference on Energy & Climate Change. Then it turns out it's sponsored by Equinor UK - the company backing giant Rosebank oil field. That's me out. #StopRosebank
