Complaints in Imperial Beach right now...yet SD HHSA says ER visits are not reflecting ANY health issues. Really? Many people in this region can't afford to go to the ER so their health does not count evidently. This is a serious Environmental Justice issue. Paloma Aguirre (she/her/ella)

Dropping bills, congressional approps processes, diplomatic efforts, working w MX are all tangible LONG-TERM strategies to this crisis. We need help NOW. Air filters, air purifiers, masks. Declare a state of emergency. It’s not normal for house 🔥 alarms to go off bcz of fumes.

The heat wave is exacerbating the horrid conditions in south San Diego caused by the sewage crisis. We’re grateful to Kimberly Prather, Ph.D., Dr. Paula Granados & their teams for their efforts, as we call on our county health officials for aid, air filters and masks! sandiegouniontribune.com/2024/09/06/res…

Otay Mesa East border crossing to make billions in toll revenue. Should some of it go to fix Tijuana sewage crisis? A resolution approved by Imperial Beach officials urges that 1% of toll revenues be set aside annually by SANDAG to mitigate cross-border sewage pollution.

Gov Gavin Newsom, it’s past time to declare a state of emergency for the sewage crisis in San Diego County. When university research teams are pulling out of the area due to harmful exposure, how can you leave whole communities w/out help? (1/2) shorturl.at/ROt4Z

I join our Congressional delegation in calling for a State of Emergency to address the pollution from the Tijuana River. This will advance our collective efforts to protect the health and safety of San Diegans. Urgent action is needed! #ForAllofUs

Grateful that we’re having the long awaited needed interventions from our public health agencies. This will build on weeks of data from researchers on the ground. Those of us living on the frontline of this crisis already know that whatever is in there, is harming our health.

The precautionary principle states that, when we do not know for certain that there will not be damaging effects of substances, especially those that are persistent and toxic in the environment, it is best to err on the side of precaution & prevent exposure.

This is the "hot spot" we have identified in Imperial Beach where turbulence in the river releases extensive odor and river spray aerosols containing viruses, bacteria, and other pollutants. The foam extends from this point all the way to the ocean. Residents told me (1/2)

We’re so thankful to have you, Paula and the team working literally around the clock to gather data that should have been gathered routinely. Our southbay communities will be safer (eventually) because of you. 🩷

Thank you Asm. David Alvarez for asking the right questions and for pointing out that stds in other crises have been set to 10ppb. No Hydrogen Sulfide exposure should ever be permitted in communities. Having it in the air is not safe, evidenced by the 100’s of ppl suffering ailments
