I have just spoken with @MaggieHelwig at St Stephen's Church. Photos of the #encampment today are NOT of an eviction. Maggie negotiated with the City to move the encampment to the south side of the property. The approach has been heavy-handed, but no one is being removed.

The final Council session of 2022 has gone off with a bang. I am pleased to say that Council has passed the much-needed Housing Action Plan, designed to put roofs over the residents of our growing city. #ToPoli

I am proud to say that Council carried my motion to direct the city to consider Toronto’s climate goals while actioning our housing plan. The creation of 15-minute neighbourhoods will lead to a more sustainable and humane future for Torontonians.

Our vote to legalize rooming houses is another important step towards expanding affordable access to housing for all residents of Toronto. Housing is a right, and no one should fear eviction because a landlord did not dot their I’s and cross their T’s.

I also congratulate my colleague Brad Bradford for his motion, passed with unanimous support, to petition the province to protect rental replacement in our city. @Fordnation's insidious Bill 23 seeks to remove protections for affordable rent and we will not stand for it.

Finally, I am proud to have stood with many of my council colleagues in defense of our local democracy and in opposition to Bill 39. I will continue to closely monitor this developing situation and ensure that the voice of the people is heard loud and clear.

Happy Hanukah to everyone celebrating the return of light at this dark time of year. I hope you get to spend some of it with people you care about.

Currently -10 outside in Toronto (up from -14 overnight). Without burning fossil fuels, our air source heat pumps is keeping inside temp where we want it. And our combined gas-hydro bill will be lower for december then previously with gas appliances.

The weather is getting colder and it's vital that everyone in need can find safe shelter. With this in mind, I am pleased to announce that I have secured a fourth warming center for the city in my ward. More details to come tomorrow! #TOPoli

The Ontario government has just released a new proposed regulation requiring 29 municipalities to report quarterly on their progress to meet the 1.5 million home target. First thing I noticed is there's no requirement to track new affordable homes, or unit size. #Onpoli 1/
