I use both digital and traditional media for #art and illustrations. I like Photoshop as a powerful tool, especially if there is a fast deadline. But I’ll never quit using pencils, paper, and paint. In fact I collect old traditional media such as ancient drafting supplies

Mojave Desert rare wetlands and riparian areas are migrant traps right now, with warblers, flycatchers, vireos, and thrushes stopping into lush willow-cottonwood groves for insect feasts. I took this photo of a pretty boi Summer tanager showing off #birds

A swarm of Swainson’s thrushes is moving through riparian groves in the upper Amargosa River wetlands in the northern Mojave Desert, Nevada. They are hunting insects in mud patches and leaf litter. One sang a soft complex ascending spiraling song. #Birds

Just when you think the desert is dry to a crisp and dead and nothing is blooming, a spinystar cactus (Escobaria vivipara) erupts in color. Never underestimate the Mojave Desert

And this is why you should listen to scientists. If Colossal wants to salvage its reputation with the scientific community, their PR department needs to have long talks with their scientists before they go spouting things off in the press. newscientist.com/article/248140…

I didn’t know this: seeds of Indian rice grass normally have 40% germination rate; seeds collected by kangaroos rats and stored in their cheek pouches to cache have 70% germination rate—Dennis Willis, retired range manager on public lands

Many millions of acres of Western US public lands are seeded with crested wheatgrass, a Eurasian cool-season bunchgrass that is often genetically engineered as cattle forage. Native sagebrush steppe is so much more biodiverse

This is what I seek: bitterroot blooms (Lewisia rediviva) and native bluebunch wheatgrass, in the sagebrush steppe of NE Nevada, protected from cattle grazing. We found elk scat here
