Finished! A solid 4⭐️. As usual, Samantha Shannon's storytelling and prose are exquisite. However, I don't fully agree that this can be read as a standalone. Read Priory of the Orange Tree first, or else you'll miss some juicy easter eggs.

Flew home yesterday and the airport in Jackson Hole, WY has a little library bookshelf where you can take and leave books. Only wish I had a book on hand to leave for someone. I'll never leave home without a physical book again!

The Two Minutes Hate in 1984 is so wild. And terrifying. Initially it sounds so far-fetched, but how easy is it to get swept up in strong emotions, particularly en masse? The loss of agency in that tidal wave of collective anger is unsettling.

'Special editions' of books have become so ubiquitous, they've lost that enchanting feel. Owning a special edition used to carry a certain level of gravitas, and now it seems everything has a special edition with sprayed edges or new cover art. Sad to see the end of such an era.

I think I'm going to start building out 'curriculums' or 'learning paths.' First for myself, to create recommended reading collections for specific topics. But if it goes well, maybe it could be useful for others?
