The Bold and Beautiful Siberian stonechat unfazed by innumerable bazookas trained on it. Posing and positing against various backdrops to give some stunning shots. On weekends one encounters an increasing number of 'birder species' in the neighbourhood wetland vying with birds.

Not quite riding into sunset but straying into sunrise, a crow pair. The egret too finds its moment in the sun. The mellow sun on winter mornings creates magic. This is the best time to be at home in Mumbai as winter migrants have started showing up. Watch this space. #NaviMumbai

In repose, in reflection. Portrait of a Brown-headed gull (bit of a misnomer as brown head of breeding plumage is missing) wintering in TS Chanakya lake in the Seawoods neighbourhood. A big mixed flock with Black-headed, Slender-billed gulls and few waders came by the other day.

Tickell's Blue Flycatcher, a dainty bird of the forest. It looks exotic and straight out of children's books of English countryside, but is very much a bird of Indian subcontinent. The only thing British about it is its identity. Named after British ornithologist Samuel Tickell.

A Long-tailed shrike strikes...terror in the hearts of its prey. Looks like a masked bandit alright! A merciless predator it hunts like a marksman often impaling its quarry on thorns of trees just as a leopard might stash away its prey. (Lanius schach) #backyardbirds #Birdland

FLIGHT OF THE FLAMINGOES Crimson wing ring in the new year. Winter migrants have arrived in good numbers at Karave Wetlands (T S Chanakya, NaviMumbai). For birders and nature photographers, whose tribe is on an exponential rise, it's literally a windfall; a season of plenty.

Now that this day and that day is over let me get back to my bird pictures shot on my first ever trip to Bharatpur. I could get lost in the mist there though even as a first timer I could sense the degradation and shrinking of ecosystem. Can we never leave pristine places alone?

Bidding adieu to the beautiful Bluethroat, the jaunty jerky ground forager, now that summer is here. The male is the flashy one with the blue throat; the female is relatively drab. You got to prostrate to this one if you desire a good eye-level shot. #backyardbirds #TSChanakya
