Friends, I wrote a piece on poet Laura Gilpin, who died of glioblastoma in 2006. She is best known for “The Two-Headed Calf.” With gratitude to Poetry Foundation for letting me try to restore this healthcare practitioner/poet’s legacy. poetryfoundation.org/articles/17056…

No one has had the heart to rebuild Nuku'alofa's gothic Church of Tonga. God has judged it with cyclone, eruption, tsunami. I crawled & climbed through its ruins, which have only been made more permanent by scaffolding.

Husband is chuffed to bits. He has been whistling the same whistle for months at our resident big boy tui and now tui is repeating same whistle. Tui does his own whistle, click click etc, now adds husband's whistle when he sees him.

‘I’m very fond of the dailyness of life. I like getting up, and going to work, and opening the post, and answering letters offensively, and coming back in the evening, and having a drink and settling down to listen to records or to try to write poetry.’
