Bede practices notable discretion here concerning Penda and Caedwalla, two kings that were adversarial to burgeoning Christendom in the early Anglo-Saxon kingdoms.

Interestingly, this is the start of kingship as a form of governance amongst the Anglo-Saxons, though largely before AS mimicry of Romano-Germanic kings on the Continent (c.600 outside Kent). Yes Brythonic kingdoms broke down, but were AS now starting to copy British kingship?

It has been colder in the opening days of spring than we are used to in my neck of the wood.
I can only imagine how harsh the spring of 537 was.

Eliffer ap Arthwys is mostly known from Triads and entries in the Annales Cambriae referring to his children. Who was this Sub-Roman British king? Was his famous Gosgorddfawr, 'Great Warband' King Arthur's famous Cavalry?

It's funny how some vague early chronologies continually get used, even though any critical look at them, especially in the weight of modern evidence will tell you they are flawed. One such issue is the generally accepted floruit for Coel Hen.

In the Welsh romance Geraint and Enid there is a figure called Elifri Anawcyrdd, who is called Arthur's head Groom. Elifri accompanies Geraint to Cornwall within the story, but little else is known of him outside of a poem by Gruffudd ap Maredudd, written for Gronwy ap Tudur

During Cuthbert's bishopric, Carlisle was probably a significant church centre, possibly a royal vill of the Northumbrian (and Rheged?) kings; King Ecgfrith's queen received Cuthbert there. He was shown with pride the city walls and Roman fountain. Bede on Cuthbert in Carlisle:

I think there's a very interesting case to be made for three separate high-kingships in the north, The Coeling Prime™, a northern faction led from Alt-Clut, and the Pictish High-Kingship.

Highly significant article by the adept Lin-Manuel Rwanda. Excellent evidence furthering the Arthwys = Arthur theory. The name can be traced chronologically through the historical record from one to the other via Ireland.

Within Y Gododdin there is an Elegy for Gwid, son of Peithan

'Steady as a standing stone,
Stubborn Gwid, son of Peithan'

Peithan is probably a corruption of Neithon, and it may stand that Gwid is the son of Neithon of Alt Clut.
