Today we celebrate #WorldWetlandsDay 💧
We’ve been working hard to protect, restore, and create freshwater habitats across Oxon-Bucks 🐸

It's #WorldWetlandsDay , and this is the Lye Valley fen SSSI, an internationally rare habitat right in the middle of East Oxford. Home to rare plants and insects, its peat acts as a huge carbon store. Find out more here: friendsoflyevalley.org.uk

Digging #ponds on floodplains. When you dig a pond on a #floodplain it is not a new pond. Floodplains are ancient wetlands with seedbanks that may be very long-lived. So the plants that colonise (quickly) likely originate from centuries old stock

We find heading outside, even just for a little while, helps to clear our heads 🔆 Watching the lapwing circle above a floodplain in the sun is certainly a boost for us on #BlueMonday 🩵

Exciting news! The discovery of the tiny but mighty Lesser Bladderwort at Natural England Cothill Fen in Oxfordshire. This lovely little carnivorous plant was last recorded here by George Claridge Druce - a renowned Oxford botanist - in 1880. Judy Webb
