The first reports of swifts in Oxfordshire came yesterday from Farmoor and Blenheim. They have spent the last 8 or 9 months in the air 24/7, migrating to and from southern Africa and will shortly land to nest in our cities and towns.

In Oxford City this summer we recorded 115 swift nests - almost as many as we did in 2021 (117). We hope that this indicates that swift numbers are stabilising following a decline of over 50% between 1995 and 2015 across the UK. Our full survey report is here.
