Great to see Jamie Livingstone from Oxfam Scotland makes the case for new Scottish wellbeing legislation heraldscotland.com/politics/viewp…
Sobering stuff. Tackling the key challenges facing Scotland – including poverty/climate change/inequality – requires long-term thinking rather than short-term Budget sticking plasters. Scottish Government must invest in/unlock Scotland's potential through far-reaching, fair tax reforms.
'It's all tied to the same policies of forcible displacement and collective punishment, destroying civilian infrastructure and making life so unliveable that you have to leave' Our colleague Bushra from Oxfam in Jerusalem speaks to The National ⬇️ thenational.scot/news/24548221.…
Great to hear Lucy Mulvagh FRSA MCIPR highlight @ScotGov's upcoming Tax Strategy as a key tool to fulfil human rights in Scotland. Valuable The ALLIANCE at #SNP24 on critical importance of a robust Human Rights Bill.
Good to hear Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes MSP strong commitment to End Child Poverty #SNP24 The moral, economic and human rights cases for doing so are overwhelming. So, surely it's time to use and reform devolved taxes in ways that align with this key priority?
Having yesterday warned folk may leave Scotland if we tax them more... 'If we want a more equitable distribution of wealth... start with our land.. The land has been used to make other people rich', says Kate Forbes MSP #SNP24 Land & property can't move. Time to tax them better?
Scotland has a widening and grotesque wealth gap, with levels of wealth inequality even deeper than those related to incomes. Scottish Government has a national commitment to share wealth more equally. It must act & use its upcoming tax strategy to fundamentally rethink devolved taxes.
More hardship and hollowing out of public spending are the very last thing Scotland needs when economic inequality is rising, poverty rates are stubbornly high and climate change targets are crumbling. Our response to the statement in Scottish Parliament by Shona Robison MSP ⬇️
What do we need to see in today's Programme for Government? New, bold and decisive action backed by commitments to transformative tax reforms to enable major new public investment. Jamie Livingstone in The Herald ⬇️ heraldscotland.com/politics/viewp…
'We've been warning for quite some time that the numbers don't add up and we need to take action through our tax system' Jamie Livingstone speaking to BBC Radio Scotland earlier ⬇️ Without action on tax, today's Programme for Government risks being nothing but half empty promises.
Today Scottish Government has published a draft new climate law, to officially ditch key climate targets. Instead of being focused on fairly cutting emissions, Scottish Government is cutting green budgets and moving the climate goalposts because of inadequate climate action: bit.ly/3zaVVnh
The message ⏬ to @ScotGov from the climate movement is clear: fairly raise the money needed and deliver faster climate action. The decision to change Scotland's climate rulebook can't create more delays. Stop Climate Chaos Scotland wwfscotland 🌍 Friends of the Earth Scotland 🌎 Our reaction: bit.ly/3zaVVnh
