Cartoon of an opium den (or 'chandu khana') in Lucknow, published in The Oudh Punch in March,1877. The scene depicts the 4 ways in which opium was consumed. 'Afiunchis' (opium users) had their own argot & many terms related to smoking it were of Malay origin (like 'chandu').

There are not only inscriptions from Southern Vietnam in Sanskrit, but also in Cham language. The Đông Yên Châu inscription is the oldest in any Austronesian language, and the fun part is - if you studied basic Malay, you can recognise a lot of it! 🤩 Urāng, dengan, di, etc.

I came across this fascinating article on Istakhri’s Kitab Masalik al-Mamalik (Book of Roads and Kingdoms), a tenth-century work. The maps mark key Palestinian cities—Ascalon, Jaffa, Acre, Ramla, Gaza, Hebron, Jerusalem, Jericho, and Tiberias. Glad, we’ve the same version too!
