The theatre industry is obsessed with loudly helping people start to begin, and then immediately shutting them out in favour of the next batch. A cynic would say it's because the established few who get all the work aren't actually that interested in having more competition...

This is perfectly put, and true of all folklore — a tree becomes the hideout of a king, a bog the haunt of a murdered wife, a hill transforms to a dragon or giant or ancient hero. The landscape is enriched by such stories, and permanently altered in perception.
