So happy to finally make a thorough post about our new study with Wei-Chin Ho, Complex Ecotype Dynamics Evolve in Response to Fluctuating Resources in mBio! (1/n) doi.org/10.1128/mbio.0…

I am so proud to have the first major report of our #rUTI #metagenomics studies of the postmenopausal #urobiome published today in Cell Reports Medicine #OpenAccess. Here's a quick summary of what we found in this NIDDK and The Welch Foundation funded study. 1/7 cell.com/cell-reports-m…

New paper alert! @AReddiLab and colleagues describe differential use of exogenous and endogenous heme by M. tuberculosis in this offering. journals.asm.org/doi/pdf/10.112…

New #preprint from our lab! Here, PhD student Carl Stone has developed an R package (CoMMA) to annotate and identify differential 6mA methylation in microbes from Nanopore data. With CoMMA he observes relaxed selection on 6mA in Exp. evolved E.coli clones without mismatch repair.

Happy to share that a preprint is up for my 1st 1st-author publication! I wrote an R package for analyzing 6mA methylation in bacteria with Nanopore data. 6mA is dynamic! Less methylation around promoters, breakdown in 6mA over time w/o MMR. All the hits inside the paper!

Great day at the @VI4Research Symposium. Oven Hale (Owen Hale), a Ph. D. Student in our lab, got to share his research conducting mutation studies in Lactic Acid Bacteria.

Good Morning! I’m excited to share our study in #mbio led by PhD candidate Carl Stone investigating 6mA evolution in E. coli! 🥳🧫🧬 Carl developed an R package (CoMMA) for differential methylation analysis of 6mA, so you can analyze differential 6mA too! journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/mb…

Honored that our work was awarded the Zuckerkandl Prize by Journal of Molecular Evolution. This was a terrific effort by Postdoc Sarah B Worthan and former undergraduate Robby McCarthy! A must read for anyone who performs lab cell culture, is interested in plasticity, or collects fitness measurements!

Preprint Alert! 🚨🚨🚨 Exciting collaboration between my group, Marc Boudvillain’s group and Benjamin Bratton! From populations experimentally evolved to extreme feast/famine cycles, we find pH-sensing rho alleles that confer pH-dependent plasticity in transcription termination!

Hot off the presses! 📰📰 E. coli evolution in repeated 100-day Feast/Famine cycles is out in Current Biology! We see high mutational order, extreme parallelism (nucleotide level!), & early mutations can ⬆️ fitness simultaneously for growth & survival! doi.org/10.1016/j.cub.…
