So proud of Carl Stone! Did an amazing job at his quals today and is now a PhD candidate!!! Big day for the Behringer lab, our first grad student is now our first candidate! More good things to come! VU Graduate School Vanderbilt University ASM @VandyBioGrad

I am so proud to have the first major report of our #rUTI #metagenomics studies of the postmenopausal #urobiome published today in Cell Reports Medicine #OpenAccess. Here's a quick summary of what we found in this NIDDK and The Welch Foundation funded study. 1/7 cell.com/cell-reports-m…

New #preprint from our lab! Here, PhD student Carl Stone has developed an R package (CoMMA) to annotate and identify differential 6mA methylation in microbes from Nanopore data. With CoMMA he observes relaxed selection on 6mA in Exp. evolved E.coli clones without mismatch repair.

Good Morning! I’m excited to share our study in #mbio led by PhD candidate Carl Stone investigating 6mA evolution in E. coli! 🥳🧫🧬 Carl developed an R package (CoMMA) for differential methylation analysis of 6mA, so you can analyze differential 6mA too! journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/mb…

Honored that our work was awarded the Zuckerkandl Prize by Journal of Molecular Evolution. This was a terrific effort by Postdoc Sarah B Worthan and former undergraduate Robby McCarthy! A must read for anyone who performs lab cell culture, is interested in plasticity, or collects fitness measurements!

Preprint Alert! 🚨🚨🚨 Exciting collaboration between my group, Marc Boudvillain’s group and Benjamin Bratton! From populations experimentally evolved to extreme feast/famine cycles, we find pH-sensing rho alleles that confer pH-dependent plasticity in transcription termination!

Hot off the presses! 📰📰 E. coli evolution in repeated 100-day Feast/Famine cycles is out in Current Biology! We see high mutational order, extreme parallelism (nucleotide level!), & early mutations can ⬆️ fitness simultaneously for growth & survival! doi.org/10.1016/j.cub.…

5 years ago I attended my 1st #ASMicrobe meeting in San Fran as a grad student poster presenter where I met my future post-doc advisor, Megan Behringer. Now, I’m back at #ASMicrobe in my home state and speaking in a great session! Come check out my talk! #fullcircle #growth #5yearplan

#stachesofevolution24 Caught fan of the show Carl Stone between talks rocking some exquisite face foliage. If you're a fan of E. Coli be sure to catch his talk Monday at 1030 in 516B. Great work sir! #evolution2024 #Evol2024
