Today, in class liturgy, we reflected on Jesus’ transfiguration. We tried to empathise with the disciples by lighting a candle and considering how it made us feel.

Year 3 and 4 prayer leaders delivered a beautiful class liturgy today on how we can help others. The children made their own prayer flags.

Year 3 and 4 have had a fantastic first week! It has been incredible to name our class Our Lady of Knock. The children have created some beautiful artwork and prayers for our class alter. As we look forward to an exciting year ahead, Our Lady of Knock pray for us.

Year 5/6 have been writing smaller, incidental pieces of writing based on The Promise which will help them with their retelling of the story in their own words. These practice pieces help them to shape their thinking in longer texts.

Year 5/6 have been thinking about themes of our class text. This will inform their retelling of the story and guide them as they choose which message they want to give the reader.

Y5/6 are looking at Viking artefacts to draw conclusions like historians. They will use a range of resources to establish what Vikings were like as a civilisation.

Can we find out how these numbers are represented in these different numeral systems? Y5/6 investigate!

High quality maths instruction uses concrete manipulative to help pupils understand the structure of concepts such as place value,addition and subtraction. Today,Y5/6 have been using place value charts to show how numbers change and the importance of 0 as a placeholder.

After re-enacting it, Y5/6 reflected on why Jesus feeding the 5000 was a miracle and how it might have made people feel.

This afternoon, Year 3 and 4 headed outdoors for a survival adventure 🏕️❄️ We learned the “Rule of 3” for survival, imagined being stranded in Antarctica, and practiced building mini shelters – from lean-to’s to wigwams. A fantastic start to our outdoor learning this year!

Our Lady of Guadalupe are working collaboratively to add speech, action and description to their stories so they engage a reader. We wrote one as a class to helps us see how writers think!
