Colin Brueggemann got the first run on the board with a 100% team at bat, he singled, then hit the big homerun in the 7th to expand the lead to 3 for OSU.
The difference between 2 and 3 is HUGE because with a 2-run lead, it only takes 1 base runner to bring the tying run to the
Brayden Smith led the game off today with a base hit, he started the 5th with an opposite field double down the left field line, he stole home to give OSU a 2-run lead, then he hit the HUGE home run to flip the scoreboard in the 7th.
Smith went 7 for his last 8 in this
Appreciate the love!
This group lost the entire left side of their infield to injury, Meola & Ortiz, their #1 starter to start the season, Gabe Davis, and just this weekend lost their 3rd baseman before the game.
Kollin Ritchie, who had a huge weekend, missed 15 games as well.
Softball & Baseball Podcast
Just dropped out latest Video putting the Softball season to bed & talking about the great weekend for the baseballers. And, of course, congrats, Coach Walton, an OSU legend. Lots covered, would love for you to give it a look.

If you TRULY want to know why this year's club held things together, listen closely to Trevor Boone in the clip below.
And, if you've been around this program for any time at all, nothing this team has done should come as a surprise.
Trevor is describing the "I Got You Bro"
Sean Youngerman gave OSU a very gritty, tough start tonight. He got the Cowboys almost exactly to the halfway point, which means the "piggyback" system that Coach Walton used tonight was set up perfectly.
All of that is great, but the most impressive part of his night was that
Mario Pesca was what is called the "piggyback" starter today. What that means is that you have the starter, who is expected to go as far as they can, then the pitcher that comes in behind them, the piggyback, is also expected to knock down big bulk innings.
And knocking down
Gabe Davis got the last 3 outs and made it look easy. Davis is building a lot of momentum at the exact right time for this team. Totally composed, made things boring, and showed a belief that his stuff beats hitters "in the zone".
The back-to-back changeups to Johnson for the
Gap Band Alert!
Kollin Ritchie hit a home run in his last at-bat of the Big 12 Championship game last year against OU, then hit another one in his 1st at tonight as well.
And, the 2 home runs were hit to literally the exact same spot.
Ritchie can carry an offense when he gets
Winning Baseball Plays
Brayden Smith & Ian Daugherty hit 2 parachutes with 2 strikes to get the 2-run 6th started, then, Colin Brueggemann shortened up and took one the other way to score Smith.
In the middle of that process, Ian Daugherty, a young man who has probably caught
One more message about the culture of OSU baseball.
Max Hewitt is 100% my favorite OSU baseball player of all time. Not necessarily because he is the best player OSU has ever had, that's a historically high bar, but no one emptied the tank more than he did.
Max never even had
What type of coverage is this? It got 2 likes, so apparently the attempt a "clickbait" didn't work.
Seriously, though, OSU fans need to humble themselves. Coach Gajewski has been nothing other than incredible at OSU. It's hard to overstate how lucky we are to have him here at
Harrison Bodendorft Appreciation Post!
Harry didn't have his best start yesterday, and OSU did not make it to the finish line, but that is a rarity when he has started. He came into yesterday having won his last 4 Conference starts in a row. He was credited with the L in the
Brayden Smith hit his 11th home run of 2025 to give OSU the lead in the 3rd yesterday. Getting the lead, and then also doing it while getting the first run are both very big parts of the game.
Again, OSU did not make it to the finish line, but KU has 26 comeback wins now, and
Alex Conover had a helluva day yesterday, and it's not surprising that moving him UP to the 2-hole brought out his great performance.
Alex is a dude!
He was the QB when he played football, he pitched and played all the most important roles at Tuttle, and he does his best work
Hunter Watkins gave up the Home Run yesterday, and I'm sure no one felt worse about that than him, but, despite that, I've come to gain MORE trust in this young man.
Sometimes you win, sometimes the opponent beats you, but Hunter comes in spinning the ball and throwing
After fighting uphill, this club finally got over the hump and continued the tradition of making the tournament every year under Coach Holliday.
And, they are now 0-0!
Just about everything that could have happened this year to keep this team out did. From the weather, to the
