Easy to just conclude "people are rubes" but the mainstream media played a huge role in this. Anyone who said Trump was gonna do Project 2025 was met immediately with "well, HE says he isn't-- 5 Pinnocchios for you, good Sir!"

This is an underrated but very important example of the dynamic "good times make soft men." Because we've had good forecasts based on NWS data for so long now, people completely take for granted the enormous amount of effort it required. Predicting weather is insanely difficult!

A big reason that it feels difficult for normal people to even attempt to engage with the contemporary right in good faith is that all of the "problems" they are preoccupied with just... aren't actually problems.

Something centrists/popularists (and also some varieties of leftist) really, really want to be true, but just isn't: that the exact particulars of policy articulated by candidates during campaigns matter, to anyone, at all

As a society, I do think we need to find an appropriate middle ground between "people must be allowed to defecate on public transit" and whatever the fuck this is

Zero self-reflection from any of these people on how their anti-woke hysterics directly facilitated the rise of Trumpist fascism and lawlessness. They will never, ever admit they were wrong.

The "can games be art" question is so stupid, because the answer is so self-evidently "yes" even if you believe the majority of popular games are slop. A better question: "What are the artistic qualities a game can have? What kinds of artistic merit are appreciable in games?"

Abolish private ownership of land. This isn't full Communism, since I'm ok with private ownership of moveable property, but landlordism needs to go. Also: -Abolish private schools -All college admissions should be by lottery -Immigration should be almost totally unrestricted

It's funny when online leftists assume that anyone else on the planet-- particularly on the right-- shares their obsession with the finest-grained distinctions among left subcategories To 99% of people, there is no meaningful difference between Marxists and "spicy Warren voters"

I don't disagree with anything in this thread, but it bums me out that Georgism never took root in the U.S. Like, who out there is saying that private for-profit land ownership is immoral and should be taxed at 100%, but also the housing crisis is largely one of supply?

At this point I feel pretty committed to my ranking: 1. Myrie 2. Mamdami 3. Lander 4. (Adrienne) Adams Not planning on ranking any other candidates. Ramos would have been my #3, but endorsing Cuomo is a deal-breaker.
