@levelsio I started using Organic Maps: Explore, Hike, Bike, Drive Offline for that reason. It slowly starts to be competitive. I use it for driving, walking and even for public transport recently. They have no fear of competition either. Just as with duckduckgo it's easy to leave the app for another one.

Jeremy Vine Organic Maps: Explore, Hike, Bike, Drive Offline uses offline maps (which are very intuitive to download - you just zoom in on an area and it asks you) so no need to worry about mobile signal and no wasting data allowance. And you can edit the map if it's wrong!
