Caught some brood trout here in Oregon. These beefy girls are from our stocking program. ODFW puts them out to pasture in our stocked ponds. I have been distributing these fish to a few local households because it is what Jesus would want me to do with my abundance.

Tricholoma murrillianum, or western pine mushroom. Also known as the matsutake. The 4th mushroom from the top left is Russula brevipes. It is the host mushroom for lobster mushrooms. It also grows in very close association with matsutake - they're best friends.

Amanita pantherinoides, a type of Fly Agaric toadstool native to the Pacific Northwest. It grows from hardwoods and shore pines in the Willamette Valley this time of year. It is very closely related to the European Amanita muscaria and North American Amanita chrysoblema.

Amanita chrysoblema is the native PNW version of A muscaria. Taxonomy is rapidly changing and we have at least 3 distinct variants which will eventually be named their own species. Amanita muscaria grows here on imported Eurasian trees, but a red A chrysoblema also exists.

It was just me and Jesus out on the water until this father and son showed up to fish. The clouds broke and a rainbow formed over them.

Lactarius deterrimus is a delicious edible mushroom. These were found growing off fir trees in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. Online resources claim it is undesirable and bitter. We loved it and I encourage you to try it.

Morchella populiphila, or half-free morel. It grows off cottonwood trees on the outskirts of yellow morel and Verpa bohemica habitats in the Willamette Valley, Oregon. A lot of people pass on them thinking they're Verpa but both mushrooms are edible, good, and abundant.

Phaeotremella foliacea is a jelly fungus responsible for parasitizing the crust fungi known as Stereum. The leafy brain fungus grows on hardwood trees and is edible. It feels exactly like you would think.

Coprinopsis atramentaria, or inky cap mushroom, foraged in Salem Oregon. Perhaps one of the best (and most overlooked) mushrooms that grow in the Pacific Northwest.

Looking to fill some openings for foraging lessons. Still have room for yellow morel season if you'd like to get out there. Group discounts available. Coastal forests end around the 4th of July. Summer lobsters and chanterelles begin Aug 1st this year.
