There was literally a ballot measure in 2017 in Los Angeles to put a moratorium on new housing. Supported by the AHF and other left-NIMBY groups in their orbit. It was completely insane, and failed at the ballot box, but yeah some people are anti-housing actually

Developing in LA? Prepare to pay nearly $9,000 per unit… for parks. Build a 100 unit apartment building in the city of LA and you're on the hook for ~$900,000 in fees specifically allocated for parks and recreation. But here’s the catch: LA’s ParkScore just dropped to 90th out

One of LA's key policy failures is measuring success based solely on "how much money have we gotten from developers?" No measure of material outcomes for the public matters. Only how much money we've gotten builders to cough up.

The brilliant Oren Hadar created a map of all 500+ of the SB 9 projects that started construction in Los Angeles in 2024. He found: - 92% of them are in the Valley - Very few did lot splits SB 9 is starting to see some real traction, but it desperately needs fixes (SB 677)

The City Attorney’s letter on SB 79 if full of misleading and outright false claims. It is shameful that this went out on city letterhead, and it’s yet another instance of Feldstein Soto playing politics rather than doing her job. 1: Los Angeles has a legal responsibility under

it’s kind of crazy that cars kill 200x as many pedestrians as e-bikes but people just accept that as a given. why don’t cars have a 15mph speed limit?

Such simple, beautiful social housing. One main material used externally, no set backs, simple form and generousity of external space (just look at that balcony!) 21 apartments in Lyon by Rue Royale Architects and Claire Tournier

There’s also examples of social housing delivered *below* market prices such as these 15 apartments for a build cost of €2.7m in Paris If we cranked up social housing, surely we’d benefit from efficiencies of scale too? I think we need more market *and* social housing built!

We need a derogatory term for US 20th cent development. Something that conveys the indifference—even hostility—to history, beauty, place making and human prosperity and connection. This type of development atomizes communities and requires roads that churn out injury and death.

Houses should be oriented around a courtyard in hot arid climates for: -Shade -Water evaporation to cool -Blocks hot air -Makes a private gatherings space In places like Arizona, California, etc, lets build these types of dwellings instead of the typical McMansion.

This bill is expected to be signed into law by the Governor on Friday. Why is it such a big deal? Let us explain in a short thread.

GAVIN NEWSOM: To the NIMBY movement that's now being replaced by the YIMBY movement, go YIMBYs. Thank you for your abundant mindset. That’s a plug for Ezra Klein. (And Derek Thompson!!!)

.California YIMBY considered expanding into transit, public safety, education, and capital-U Urbanism issues for the exact reasons identified in this article. We decided 1) we don't have the resources to execute our core housing goals AND expand; and 2) we'd split the YIMBY movement.
