All Pacific countries- shake my head & that’s why understanding history, religious conversion, specifics of Pacific identities, Christian faith & politics, links between English learning, literacy & the Bible, colonialism, development, globalization, security & aid are critical

Day of shame. We voted against peace. And a few days ago our PM talked up our “Peacekeeping” tradition. More proof of coup coup culture? And before anyone is tempted to try justifying this senseless violence - do you really think this is what Jesus would have done?

Localising the Judiciary....almost..but good to have local judges filling our benches again. Now we need to keep developing our jurisprudence in light of all the issues we are dealing with. We must use the law and its processes to solve our challenges...nothing but the law.

Was reminded of how The University of the South Pacific students were frontlines for socio-political #justice at the inaugural Brij Lal Lectures Deakin University Such a shame to see the attempt by The University of the South Pacific Student Association disassociate itself from a #protest: partially its raison d’être! 1/2

To reiterate: Metropolitan nations are using the language of climate justice and respect for Indigenous rights to securitise the region. The Pacific is being rendered as a sacrifice zone: a climate disaster area & military buffer. Falepili is the prime example of both trends.

Huge thanks to Prof Steve Ratuva for sharing his article on the Falepili Union Treaty this morning. An important read (even if you don't agree - especially if you don't agree) because it reflects broader opinion in the Pacific. UC Pacific Studies e-tangata.co.nz/comment-and-an…
