Stealing from the (data) rich and giving to the poor: a Robin Hood approach to predict traits for all fishes worldwide! Led by Jim Thorson NOAA Fisheries with @Aurore_Maureaud and others. Now out in Methods in Ecology and Evolution fisheries.noaa.gov/feature-story/…

Forest canopies can #thermoregulate! Our @PNAS letter shows most layers exhibit #limitedHomethermy, with only the canopy-top exhibiting #megathermy. Canopy-top thermal imaging data are widely reported, but do not accurately quantify canopy-scale behavior. shorturl.at/cqrN9

How can we collect large datasets of plant functional traits? Here’s a time lapse of taking one plant through the BetweenTheFjords Lab and Plant Functional Traits Courses trait wheel, an efficient system that can be scaled to process thousands of leaves. #IAmABotanist #ecophysiology

Our new paper showing that bootstrapping outperforms community-weighted approaches when estimating trait distributions is out at Methods in Ecology and Evolution ! By embracing variation, we get closer to the true community distribution and metrics. doi.org/10.1111/2041-2…

Bad data is a problem, especially when it informs decisions & is seen as reliable and standardised. We decided that we would look into what informs the IUCN assessments, given that they are the main species indicator for the global biodiversity framework. doi.org/10.32942/X2KK7D
