I graduated as a doctor 4 years ago with ~£100k of debt, and despite working up to 72 hours a week, my debt has only increased. Doctors are being paid £17/hour and have to make loan repayments and pay thousands for exams and fees. We are only asking for £23/hour. Wes Streeting

That doctor you saw at 7pm on a Friday in hospital? They were paid £18.62/hr; for CPR, giving critical treatments, making life or death decisions for your loved ones. They’re asking for £22.67/hr. A bargain for a fully qualified dr. Wes Streeting thinks that’s unreasonable.

The bottom line with all NHS staff, not just doctors, is that unless you make the NHS a decent place to work, with a decent enough salary to be able to pay off your debts and afford to buy a house near where you work, or at least know where you’re going to be working in the next

Doctors currently earn £18.62 an hour, they are asking for £22.67 an hour. Their assistants get paid £24.45 an hour. How can Wes Streeting defend paying doctors less than their assistants?

Now we have a situation where Doctors’ Assistants, unqualified to diagnose, are paid more than actual Doctors. Even with full pay restoration, Doctors would still earn less than these assistants, exposing a ludicrous disparity in the healthcare system’s wage structure!

There really should be a formal inquiry into we got this far. The medics who enabled this should hang their heads in shame and never be in leadership positions again.

Anyone else worried about how health care professionals have been silently but definitely excluded from the covid vaccine this year. As an oncologist, this worries me as my patients are vulnerable. Disappointing that the decision for this is not included in The Green Book.
