From the vibrant shores of West Africa to the expanse of the Atlantic, the Ocean Margins Initiative is a bold global research collaboration of the Ocean Biogeochemical Virtual Institute (OBVI), that is advancing our understanding of how coastal oceans influence Earth’s climate.

Co-led by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) University of Ghana and URI in collaboration with several partner institutions across the east and West Coast of the USA and supported by Schmidt Sciences

— OMI unites scientists and coastal communities to explore coastal upwelling, ocean carbon cycles, and biogeochemical dynamics in the Gulf of Guinea, one of the world’s most vital and understudied ocean margins.
