There's years of mandated rotation, experience and exams between me and a haematology reg post as a doctor, as someone already 4 years qualified. Meanwhile, here, experience of haem patients desirable.

That is the lesson of the entire saga. When someone tells you 'this is just how it is' - push back, ask for the evidence and make them stand up and say it in public. It's unnerving quite how wrong some of these people have been.

The question everyone needs to ask is whether they would work for free as a doctor, and if they won't, where is the line at which their sense of vocation gives way to financial need. Or should medicine become the domain of those so wealthy they don't need paying?

Seeking resident docs to talk about why they are going on strike. Need to be named, but only need 5 or 10 mins, for Doctors.net.uk. Many thanks

Only comment to make is that another group was recently touted as practicing like an entry to middle grade doctor, and there was a whole review done about it. Let's please not make that mistake again. If you're short of doctors, what you need is more doctors.

🧵 Retired surgeon Prof Meirion Thomas' claims that patients struggle to see GPs because “too many women are doctors” are insulting and unfounded. Workforce challenges stem from underfunding and rising demand, not gender.

This is key to the whole disagreement. We can agree that people are entitled to healthcare. What we're not entitled to is the labour of others - responsibility to provide healthcare sits with government.

What I don't relish: People being out of work, having been sold lies and wasted money and time What I do relish: DHSC/NHSE (hopefully GMC too) having to deal with this problem which they have made *significantly* worse for themselves.

Maintenance of the health workforce in sufficient numbers isn't a bargaining tool, it's a thing that is just your job if you're in charge of the nation's health.

When I was an SHO med staffing asking me to hold the med reg bleep for a few hours. I said no because it was outside of my level of competence and so inherently unsafe. Management will always try and cheaply solve a problem. Where is the individual insight & responsibility here?

I still don't know what the point in regulation is meant to be if systems gear up to get people to work outside of their scope of practice, replace a different *also regulated* staff group, declare it online, and that's somehow all fine and normal.
