On 29 July 2025 Amb Maes deposited Luxembourg’s instrument of ratification of the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction, also known as the #BBNJ Treaty

Luxembourg’s ratification brings the number of Parties to the BBNJ Treaty to 52. The Treaty will enter into force 120 days after the date of the deposit of the 60th instrument of ratification, approval, acceptance or accession #HighSeasTreaty #BBNJ

1/ The images of Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza for 668 days are unbearable. They must be released immediately and unconditionally. Hamas must be disarmed and removed from any role in governing Gaza.

2/ At the same time, the suffering of civilians in Gaza must end now. Israel must allow full, unimpeded access to humanitarian aid still blocked at Gaza’s border. We urgently need a ceasefire—immediate and lasting—to save lives and end the humanitarian catastrophe.

On 31 July 2025, Amb Olivier Maes had the honor to sign with his colleague Amb Brian Wallace the Air Services Agreement between Jamaica and Luxembourg. This agreement establishes a solid framework for aviation activities, including cargo, between our two countries 🇯🇲🤝🇱🇺✍️✈️

1/ At today’s extraordinary FAC, we discussed the situation in Ukraine & the Middle East. On Ukraine: Every effort for a ceasefire is welcome. 🇱🇺 will continue to stand with 🇺🇦 in its pursuit of peace. There will be no just and lasting peace without 🇺🇦 at the negotiating table.

2/ On the Middle East: The continued suffering and destruction in Gaza are unacceptable. Escalation by Israel will only make it worse. We need a ceasefire now, humanitarian aid to enter Gaza and the hostages released.
