Happy Friday! We are on week-12 of Operation Healthy Streets and we know it looks and feels better. We will keep going! 950 citations, mostly for municipal code violations. 511 arrests; 114 of the arrests were people wanted in and transported to other counties.

Though my early career plans never included being a Police Chief, over three decades of service that is what ended up happening and I realize how blessed I am.  I plan to retire in October next year after 36 years of law enforcement service and over 30 years as a Pomona Cop.

This week the executive command staff again attended our annual appreciation celebration at our Pomona Police Department Explorer Post 160’s Christmas Party. We are so very proud of our young volunteers.

This morning we participated in the official Ribbon Cutting Event at our City's Hope for Home Homeless Service Center. It was such a positive event and speaks to the positive leadership this City is showing on the issue.

At our Santa Cop event this morning. City hall is filled with toys donated by our generous community... less fortunate families are lining up. As usual, Pomona PD personnel are going way above and beyond. Happy Holidays! I love this compassionate community.

Operation Healthy Streets is still going strong, enforcing quality of life violations. Our stats today after over 4 months at it... 1,213 citations, mostly for municipal code violations. 608 arrests; 146 of the arrests were people wanted in and transported to other counties.

Getting ready for the Christmas parade!

At this week’s Council Mtg, I introduced our new Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking Team (SET Team). This new unit will focus their full attention on the Holt Av and adjacent areas to make a more visible and sustained improvement on prostitution and human trafficking offenses.

Tonight we attended the San Bernardino County Sheriffs Academy Graduation (Class 216), where two of our newest Pomona officers graduated. Afterwards, I swore them both in. They will start field training soon. Welcome aboard Officer Wallace Gonzalez and Officer Matthew Mendoza!

I’ve been blessed to serve this City for so many years. Over the Christmas holiday I decided to move my retirement date up to the end of January; October was just too far away. I am so looking forward to being more present ‘in the moment’ with my family and friends.

I hope you had a chance to see us on Live PD over the last two nights. “With the high demand for law enforcement transparency... There's not much more you can do to keep someone accountable than letting a couple million people watch them perform their job.” More to come.

Last year we declared that we would deploy extra officers on OT everyday of the week to address quality of life issues on our streets and in our parks. Several months later we are still at it. So far in January: 54 arrests 34 citations 19 people wanted in other counties

Yesterday, I finally picked up this shadow box…. It depicts all the badges I had worn in all of the different promotional positions that I was fortunate to be entrusted to serve in. God bless the amazing work the Pomona PD is doing and all of the amazing people there.

At times I simply stare at this and remember how each rank I enjoyed came with such a huge amount of experiences (good and bad) that certainly helped to define who I am now. What a ride. The best badge is my 9th one, the retirement badge. That one just makes me smile.
