A local freelance journalist was among the 27 arrested. Not part of the protest, no criminal record, charged with trespassing.

With his charge dropped, he's now able to speak freely about his experience.

TLDR: 'This was complete bullshit!'

Shout-out to Ryan, Baucom, Longo, and the whole UVA admin for creating the conditions (pissing off so many people by calling in the cops) for the largest union United Campus Workers UVA meeting I’ve ever been to. If you draw a paycheck from UVA, join us! ucwva.org/get-involved/

After Loretta Lynch's father dies, his tenants living in neglect are given the boot.

Some have fought back & ended up in court: “Who knew that your landlord was supposed to provide heat? I didn’t know that was a part of the landlord-tenant relationship.”

As a landscape where ideological battles over family life, gender, & sexual politics continue to unfold, the South is crucial terrain for doing this meaning-making as well as critically examining the ever-changing context of queerness in the present day. southerncultures.org/cfp-queer-sout…

After Israel's evacuation order, 'roads leading out of Rafah were choked with long columns of young and old, sick and healthy,... Many walked, carrying their belongings, under a searing summer sun. Some were pushed in wheelchairs or even carried.' theguardian.com/world/article/…

Yes. A good deal of the reporting on campus protests outside of local and STUDENT press is various fantasies or other national issues projected onto a local a situation mostly via videos they watched on Twitter, with occasional superficial accounts from drive-by whining.

New.

The harsh crackdown on campus protest is predictably ineffective, blatantly hypocritical and extremely dangerous for the future.

It won’t work, it will backfire, and it will endanger more than rights on campuses.

And there were sane ways to deal with their challenges.

This is a must read - a complete dissection of UVA’s leaders narrative around what happened on May 4. Every part of their story has major holes or in some cases complete fabrications. Incredible journalism and I’m very grateful to everyone who spoke up.

UVA says a series of events Fri/Sat. led them to deploy state police, including:

-Tents
-4 men in black
-Longo feeling fear
-Protestors 'swinging objects'

But witnesses dispute most of the claims.

My story detailing how their account differs from UVA's

Important to note that the senate shot down another motion actually condemning the administration’s use of police violence after some senators bizarrely - and in total bad faith - suggested that some of the protestors “hypothetically could have had guns.” Grossly irresponsible.
