Overall, insurance access is vitally important to colorectal screening access. The West, which has greater and more equitable access to insurance sees significant decreases in stage at diagnosis at the recommended age of colorectal screening. 5/

That sound you hear is the culture of American surgery breaking—in preparation to be rebuilt for the better. More healthy, more vulnerable, and more human. Thank you to @lubitz_carrie for the most important Presidential address I’ve had the opportunity to hear. #ASC2023

Amazing job Meredith MacMartin, MD MS FAAHPM. I love this project. Jack Byrne Center has given the people of NH a very dignified way to die. It also increased awareness about end of life care options and spread the PC gospel through DHMC. Thx forever to Amber E. Barnato MD for opportunity and inspiration.

We most certainly have the know-how (and outside pressure from referring physicians and family members) to offer “successful” surgery to debilitated patients who have no chance whatsoever of a meaningful long term recovery. These are the toughest dilemmas in my current practice.

Loved our night celebrating the great Dr. Habr-Gama. How inspiring!! Thanks to Jennifer Davids, MD for sponsoring us colorectal surgery hopefuls and to BMC Surgery for being fabulous company.

To be racist and sexist is to assume superior White and male leaders earn their positions through merit, and inferior Black and woman leaders receive their positions due to identity. These ideas show up in times of crisis: the Black and woman leader is assumed to be the problem.

If you punch your ticket to a categorical general surgery spot in the U.S.— anywhere— you’ve made it. There’s a line of people miles long that would kill to have this job. It’s that good.

This was interesting to research and write. There are incredible advances being made in the field of diverticulitis. Ever grateful to Jason Hall, diverticulitis maverick, for the opportunity.
