palliative care is not end of life care

“But health and health inequalities are fundamentally shaped by social and economic conditions outside the NHS’s control, such as income, education, and housing.” A fact that seems to be ignored by many of our politicians (and some journalists).

This is children’s palliative care. Pyjama parties, party hats & googly eyes! It’s being able to support families through the hardest of times whilst facilitating as much fun and laughter for children as possible. Seriously ill children deserve all the joy we can give them.

This is paediatric palliative care at its best. N loves smoked salmon and it is the perfect food for her right now, as it is soft and full of flavour in each small bite. It is also a comfort and a distraction, when she is in pain. 1/3

Just read a great article on #NarrativeMedicine. It dives into the history and importance of understanding patients' stories in healthcare. Recommend giving it a read.

Learning more about #NarrativeMedicine and I am grateful to all those who share personal stories here on Twitter. These provide insight into human experiences, beyond what statistics alone reveal. Especially important, given how often our society tends to put numbers first

This is Paediatric Palliative Care Last year, N had an increase in seizures (she has complex and atypical seizures). Midazolam was needed. N hates the taste of it and was unimpressed. Her doctors negotiated with her and they settled on a Freddo for each dose of Midazolam. 1/3
