My experience over the last two years working with this international and multi-disciplinary group of scientists has driven home how synergy and collaboration really brings forth creative research, despite our fair share of setbacks and challenges.

The chapter explores how nonlinear physics concepts, like multiscaling and complex networks, provide insights into natural variations, improving predictions of extreme events. It concludes by addressing methodological challenges in Earth sciences.
