Most political problems experienced throughout the world are caused by people with strong attachment to their own views. Many problems are also caused by people’s attachment to their religious views. ~ Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Rejoicing in other people’s happiness or good qualities is one of the purest of all virtuous minds, for it is unstained by self-cherishing.

Self-grasping grasps at an inherently existent ‘I’, and self-cherishing believes that such an ‘I’ is precious and that its happiness and freedom are supremely important.

We choose a quiet place to meditate and sit in a comfortable position. We can sit in the traditional cross-legged posture or in any other position that is comfortable. If we wish, we can sit in a chair. ~ Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

‘Activities such as cooking, working, talking and relaxing are not intrinsically mundane; they are mundane only if done with a mundane mind. By doing exactly the same actions with a spiritual motivation, they become pure spiritual practices’ 🙌 Geshe Kelsang Gyatso ❤️

Because suffering, worry, depression and pain are feelings, they are types of mind, so it follows that they exist inside and not outside our mind.

When we develop real patience our mind will be as stable as a mountain and as calm as the depths of an ocean. ~ Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

If we practice patience when we are sick we will be able to remain calm and peaceful, and if we practice patience when someone harms us we will have the clarity and calmness of mind to respond in a constructive way, without anger or self-pity. ~ Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

By controlling our mind in this way we experience a cessation of our pain, worry and depression, and find true inner peace. Furthermore, by keeping a peaceful mind in difficult situations we are far more likely to find solutions and respond constructively.

We may think that our suffering is caused by other people, by poor material conditions, or by society, but in reality it all comes from our own deluded states of mind.
