Just a reminder that we are hosting a workshop/brainstorming about submissions to the Parliamentary Inquiry Into Interregional Passenger Rail on Tuesday evening this coming week. Hope to see you there! #TheFutureIsRail our.actionstation.org.nz/events/inter-r…

Regional councils matter most for rail. Here's the new Horizons Council (with public statements on transport, darker orange is more pro-rail). We look forward to speaking with all councillors on how rail can impact climate action, connect people & help grow regional economies.

I’ve had some people caring loudly at me in the best way this morning and I can now share the good news - on prelim results I have a 500+ majority to be a councillor for the Albert-Eden-Puketāpapa ward of Auckland Council. Frankly shocked.

'Business as usual' hasn't worked for passenger rail. Unless there are changes at the top, we'll be stuck with 50 year-old trains on isolated, disconnected routes in the regions that bothered to care about public transport nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/go…

If it's easier to create cross-border trains between foreign countries than between regions of NZ, then perhaps there's something broken with our regional public transport policies & planning 🌏🚆

Yet another photo of a bunch of houses wedged up against a rail line with no passenger trains🤦 A scene you can find in hundreds of communities across NZ. Ridiculous, especially when we have a housing crisis AND a climate crisis. #TheFutureIsRail

Tired old argument from ODT - Otago Daily Times. Many examples of feasible, competitive m-gauge intercity rail: Greater Auckland did an excellent case study on KTM Berhad in 2019. Not abt max, but avg speeds: even 90-110kmh would outpace buses + most cars. The Future Is Rail greaterauckland.org.nz/2019/02/20/mal…

Not quite sure how I'm supposed to tell West Aucklanders with a straight face that they should consider taking public transport. Let down again. I'm extremely frustrated and writing a "please explain" letter now

Just to clear up confusion, the Wellington protests are from another group. There's momentum for change re rail in communities across the NZ. We aim to harness that energy to imagine better public transport. Our tactics are public discussion, submissions, articles, forums, etc)
