In South Africa, "undocumented migrants" is often misunderstood. Many have passports, entered legally via airports & borders, but overstayed their on their visitor visas. Lacking a visa makes them undocumented—but have valid passports but no legal residency status.

In light of the issue of fake PhDs, I thank the grace of God. I moved from growing tomatoes in Mutoko to selling in Mbare, and from there, I started my journey from a bachelor’s degree to a PhD between 2010 and 2020.

What pains me most is that those who fake PhD qualifications often had better backgrounds, went to better schools, had more pocket money at varsity, and were better positioned to succeed than us. #FakeQualifications #Education #Inequality

Amidst the noise about foreign academics in SA universities, remember: many foreigners do MAs/PhDs because they can’t find jobs post-graduation, while locals often secure work. They publish, supervise & build track records—and finish MA/PhD on time, before visas expire.

After removing foreign academics from South African universities, the following will magically happen: 1. NSFAS allowances will be disbursed on time 2. Student accommodation shortages will disappear 3. Infrastructure in higher education will be adequately maintained
