A local naval airman who died on this day in 1942 was “well known as a racing motorcyclist and dirt track rider.” He was also one of the first men in Warwickshire to hold a civil aviation licence. I imagine he was a real character. 📍Nuneaton (Oaston Road) Cemetery

A brave Great War airman from my hometown, Nuneaton, died of wounds on his day in 1918. Serjeant William Dyke first served with DCLI before transferring to the RFC/RAF. He was awarded both the DCM and DFM. 📷 livesofthefirstworldwar.iwm.org.uk/lifestory/6530… Below is a short thread about him.

Polish Aviation Day - 28th August 🇵🇱 Remembering the 29 Polish airmen who are buried in my local cemetery. The majority served with 18 Operational Training Unit and died in training accidents while based at nearby RAF Bramcote. 📍Nuneaton (Oaston Road) Cemetery

A victim of the ‘Big Push’… Pte Sidney Dewis, 10th Royal Warwickshire Regiment, was wounded at Albert, France, and died in a Glasgow hospital; he is buried in his hometown, Nuneaton. He enlisted under the Derby Scheme and died aged 20. 📍Chilvers Coton (All Saints) Churchyard
