We’re in Vienna this week, where our Chairman David Wright met with regulators from Canada, the U.K., and Poland plus operators in each country, all focused on reviewing and deploying the GE Vernova Hitachi BWRX-300 small modular reactor.

This cooling tower could have been used for a new AP1000 nuclear plant at Hartsville site. But Congress hasn't raised TVA's debt ceiling since 1979 so it couldn't finance such a project. GOP instead tasks TVA with SMR development only, despite AP1000 being most cost effective.

While we make hype videos about the demolition of nuclear reactor infrastructure in America, China releases a montage about building the world's largest wet cooling tower at the Lianjiang Nuclear Power Plant. China is building 6 American-designed reactors on the site.

The Hartsville Nuclear Plant project began in 1977 with 4 planned GE BWR-6 reactors (~1,233 MWe each) enough for ~4M homes. Canceled in 1979 after TMI, its 540-ft cooling tower was finally demolished by Tennessee Valley Authority on Sept 2025. A stark reminder of lost nuclear progress.

Nuclear NY Barakah nailed it—built on time, didn't vaporise capital like some out there. Shows what happens when you trade project hype for actual delivery. The rest need to try keeping up! 🤠
