This is terrific news, but we are entering a stage of development where each vaccine will need 30,000 volunteers, so more people should find a trial being run near them to volunteer at coviddash.org

Mats (@nuanceordeath) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Have you considered volunteering for a clinical trial? You should! Every day we accelerate vaccine development we could save up to 3,750 lives. Find a trial near you at coviddash.org, a portal run by volunteers. As mentioned in the NYT: nytimes.com/2020/08/05/hea…

Loud restaurants and bars resulting in unnecessary deaths aligns perfectly with my prejudices against loud restaurants and bars.

Want to help end the pandemic? Want to help advance science? Want to save lives by ensuring vaccines that can be distributed to the developed world get approved? Want access to a COVID vaccine early? Then join a vaccine clinical trial, find the nearest one using the site below:

Brendan Carmichael Eric Topol So very much. If using PCR, then more often than not you are detecting people after (perhaps weeks after) they have been infectious. So if tracing contacts from the 48hrs before the PCR pos swab, you are likely tracing the wrong people. See this:

Loved this. Sir Stephen Fry's dulcet tones explaining the thinking behind the #effectivealtruism movement: random acts of kindness are wonderful, but by deliberate acts of kindness we can do a whole lot better. youtu.be/kgAJntmfdGo

With dozens of researchers at Yale, Stanford, Berkeley and IPA and several other organizations, we ran a cluster randomized trial involving almost 350,000 people and 600 villages in Bangladesh to assess the impact of community masking on COVID.

This is arguably the most important single piece of epidemiological research of the entire pandemic. A MASSIVE randomized trial launched a pro-mask campaign in some Bangladeshi villages, but not others. The result: masking villages got less COVID. poverty-action.org/sites/default/…

How does our past and present compare with the future? We don't know. But what I learned from writing this post is that our future is potentially very, very big. I try to convey this here. But even this visualization shows only a small fraction of humanity's potential future. /3

Seasonal flu vaccines are updated yearly and do not require clinical trials beforehand; we should do the same for COVID-19. Requiring clinical trials for each update would delay approval by four months (!), during which a new variant could wreak havoc. ft.com/content/1c1bcc…

After a deep review of our potential paths to impact and $$$, we've decided to discontinue Alvea's core operations & return remaining funds (~1y of runway) to investors. It's been a wild ride these past 1.5 yrs—huge thank you to all who've supported us ♥️ Reflections coming soon!
