European carp are clogging up the rivers and the #ausgov wants to take water from farmers so this invasive species has even more to keep breeding up in

So does this law mean Anthony Albanese Tanya Plibersek can also be held to account for #ausgov spreading misinformation, like ads saying water is overused in the Murray-Darling Basin when MDBA says use is 23% below Basin Plan sustainable diversion limits? #ausag smh.com.au/politics/federโ€ฆ

Yes, it does. And itโ€™s the family farms giving up and bailing out. The impact will be felt in the next drought when water prices surge and production falls, with ABARES warning rice and dairy will be hardest hit #ausag

Farmers have had enough of being thrown under the bus for city votes with decisions like water buybacks. Diversions are now 23% below sustainable diversion limits so overuse isn't the problem. It's govt inaction on carp & other degradation drivers #NationalAgRally

Comprehensive MD Basin Authority report dropped late on Friday forgot to mention MDBAโ€™s own finding that water use is 23% below Sustainable Diversion Limits, putting the lie to misleading DCCEEW Tanya Plibersek ads claiming overuse to justify unnecessary, damaging buybacks. ๐Ÿค”

Yes, extremely interesting itโ€™s been removed after the MD Basin Authority reported water use is 23% under sustainable diversion limits. But DCCEEW Tanya Plibersek are still pressing ahead with their unnecessary and damaging water buybacks #ausag #ausgov

The Australian #rice industry knows that different production systems result in different emmisions. The trade-off is that the lower methane emmission production system has significantly less ecological value. What happens to the species that live in the flooded system? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

If DCCEEW Tanya Plibersek #ausgov were serious about tackling threats to native biodiversity, theyโ€™d be spending billions $ on tackling degradation drivers still making our rivers sick, instead of unnecessary water buybacks giving European carp more water to breed up in.

Farmer Renรฉe I think Gabrielle Chan misses the point here about direct policy impacts on agriculture & the broader economic challenges for Australia. Most industries in Australia are struggling with our high cost base & it squeezes margins throughout the supply chain.

NSW Irrigators' Council (@nswirrigators) 's Twitter Profile Photo

We agree. Native fish are still declining across the Murray-Darling Basin but โฆTanya Plibersekโฉ is spending billions on more unnecessary water buybacks instead of doing something about European carp choking rivers, wrecking water quality & habitat theguardian.com/environment/coโ€ฆ

David Ward Farmer Renรฉe Gabrielle Chan Yes, that's my point. The protest was about specific ag policies. Gabi is talking about whole of economy challenges. Where we are is a direct result of deregulation/competition policy from 40 years ago. Interestingly, exactly what farmers & the NFF were protesting about in 1985.

NSW Irrigators' Council (@nswirrigators) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Absolutely tokenistic, and cynical when Tanya Plibersek #ausgov are spending billions on more unnecessary buybacks so European carp have more water to breed up in and displace native fish. Heaven forbid they spend serious $ reducing carp to make a real difference to river health

David Ward Farmer Renรฉe Gabrielle Chan The irony is that competition policy (after an initial sugar hit & much pain for many industries) has led us to a point where we are uncompetitive & the competition has been gobbled up by competitors resulting in a concentration of market power in fewer & fewer organisations.
