At the CUNY School of Law commencement & nearly everyone is wearing a kuffiyeh. 18 years ago it was only me and three of dearest friends who adorned one at Berkeley Law School’s commencement.

The International Criminal Court prosecutor, Karim Khan, has asked the ICC to issue arrest warrants for Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Defence Yoav Gallant based on alleged acts committed during  the war in Gaza.

During the onset of the Nakba in 1948, there was a special Israeli unit charged with stealing books from Palestinian homes, libraries & book stores. This chapter of the Nakba is all about obliteration.

It’s perverse and revolting. I can’t believe a sane person thought this was appropriate.

I see some commentators argue that Palestine “is a state for the purposes of the ICC” in response to the UK’s position that the Court has no jurisdiction.

The better phrasing I think is that Palestine “is a state”, period, but the UK, an ICC member, “refuses to recognise it”

The medical staff at AlAwda hospital have endured unbearable horrors since the war began but they did not leave their patients. Israeli soldiers bombed the hospital and physically forced them to flee. They pleaded with everyone. Nothing and no one was able to help.

⚠️The halls of international politics are either paralyzed or heavy on theatrics, shot on action. But the halls of the ICJ are busy. Tomorrow, Friday. The ICJ will deliver its Order on South Africa’s request for provisional measures. Eyes again on the Hague.
