(1of2) I sometimes lament how much Alaska has changed since I was a kid, back when you always knew someone on your flight, in the grocery store, or saw them at an event.

I’ve told my sons & players for years that giving back to your community by coaching brings many connections that you may not recognize until years after the fact. This past week I heard from a player that I coached in hockey 28 years ago! Be impactful and give back by coaching!

The University of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves are trying to save their hockey program set to be eliminated by a Board Of Regents vote next Thursday. Coach Matt Curley told me tonight they are looking for the BOR to delay their decision for 3-6 months,shooting for late Feb..

They recognize they have a lot lot of work to do as a program. What they want/need is more time to come up with a sustainable plan to demonstrate their ability to be more self sufficient though the committed support alumni & Anchorage community similar to Alabama-Huntsville...

Jay Beagle of the Vancouver Canucks is an alum of UAA. With this granted time, it would be up to the hockey proponents to show that the Seawolves are worth keeping around another 40 years. Alumni and community support and passionate and smart communication to the BOR is vital..

It’s gonna take a big show of passion but also a concise mission statement on HOW this could be done. Lacking a league is a big a hurdle but Curley and Co. would like some time to figure that part out. The time is NOW to act and save the UAA #CawlidgeHawkey team. #SaveSeawolves

Here is something very powerful I have learned from having cancer and going through chemo: I cannot stop it from affecting my body, but I must not allow it to affect my mind. The mindset I bring to this battle is enormously important.

I think I speak for coaches and players statewide when I say thank you for all the hard work to promote Alaskan baseball players. Possibly under appreciated, but not unrecognized. Hopefully it’s just “ see your later” and not “goodbye” to the @ReportAlaska ! ⚾️
