Rus: The baptism of Olga "Olga went to Greece, and arrived at Tsar'grad. The reigning Emperor was named Constantine, son of Leo. Olga came before him, and when he saw that she was very fair of countenance and wise as well, the Emperor wondered at her intellect." [Thread] 🧵

So many people in government just aren’t clever enough to be there. Do we think David Lammy stays up at night reading about these conflicts? Do you think he has read a single book on either Armenia or Azerbaijan? Or, dare I say, a single journal article? I don’t think so…

Septimius Severus is hailed as the first Roman emperor from North Africa. While this is true as far as it goes, it does not mean he was Berber, much less (as some say) that he was Black-skinned. It is believed his parental lines were of primarily Italian and Punic heritage.

This is precisely the problem when ideologues try to pin point this supposed ‘fall of Rome’. Ricimer wasn’t the first to rule through a puppet emperor. This supposed monumentally symbolic thing already happened 78 years prior.
