Gayton McKenzie Good afternoon Minister. I have over the last 10 years worked very deeply with Artists mainly Jazz and Theatre in South African and China. I wrote a research dissertation which I graduate in July from Wits University which looks at issues faced by freelance artists

2/3 - In my research I have some finding and suggestions which I believe have a strong barring in helping our artists in South Africa based on a benchmarking exercise from other countries such as China, Australia, Mauritius and Croatia regarding freelance work.

3/3 What I found in my research is that Department of Sport, Arts and Culture is working in a silo strategy even when issues they handle after other departments such as labour, tax, market access, economic inclusion, (il)legitimacy, and more over long term career dev and sustainability.
