Donate to Special Olympics! This is my Polar Plunge Page - this is my fifth year doing the plunge. Each year, it feels a little colder but its worth it. give.classy.org/matthewabelfor…

I don't doubt the success of these AI Edtech programs, but there's such a high cost involved. As much as I push for prioritizing learning at schools, their purpose as a center of community is also crucial. The more we individualize everything, the less happy people are.

I guess my goal for kids is that they learn so they can help make life better for themselves and those around them. That doesn't always equate to earning potential. There's nothing wrong, imo, with valuing profit but some people seem to value ONLY profit, and that's miserable.

The biggest concern on screens in classrooms is the distraction factor. It's why social media is such a distraction - the constant notifications. Locking down the access to just academics helps a little bit since we know drilling and accommodation tech can help.

As someone who embraces direct/explicit instruction in my math classroom: What do we think is so different in Singapore? They have a unique instructional method that obviously works.

I am working on my grid for the Polar Plunge to support Special Olympics. Yes, I am an Internet Stranger but these kids are very real and they need your support! Donate here: give.classy.org/matthewabelfor…

If you ran the numbers for the "best" countries for education and treated each US State as its own country (ranking 244 instead of 195), the US States would all be in the top 75, with several in the top 20. We do not have a "US Education System."

"AI is as powerful as its prompts." If only there was a building dedicated to creating skills in communication and strong description.

Development takes discomfort. Some adults don't want to admit this, but kids learn by feeling a little uncomfortable because learning takes effort. Not unsafe. Not miserable. Slightly uncomfortable, that feeling that they don't know something. Some can turn that into curiosity.

Educators need to start with the assumption that the adults they are arguing with WANT to help students, that is their intent. Assuming harm or disdain does not help convince people to change. Yes, there are exceptions, but this is a tweet not a dissertation.
