I love this counsel from C. S. Lewis to a discouraged Christian: "I know all about the despair of overcoming chronic temptations. It is not serious provided self-offended petulance, annoyance at breaking records, impatience etc doesn't get the upper hand. No amount of falls

When St. Francis Borgia was still Duke of Gandia, he wrote to St. Ignatius about how much he was praying, and Ignatius wrote back scolding him for praying so much—as a duke, ppl depend on him for governance and justice, and spending multiple hours in prayer takes away from that

19th century botanical illustration of common toadflax (linaria vulgaris). It brings back memories of my childhood, as it grew on my route to school and was always buzzing with bumblebees in September.

I was traveling with Mark Dever in Egypt when news of Ravi Zacharias broke. A young Christian asked Mark what to make of it. Mark told him 3 things: 1. What Ravi did was terrible. 2. Ravi won’t be the last Christian leader you see fall. 3. Most won’t. Pray for your pastors.

One of the backdrops to Forbidden Planet - the absolute classic sci-fi movie from 1956 that stars Leslie Neilsen, features an incredible electronic soundtrack from Louis and Bebe Barron, and generally rips off The Tempest - is still in use in a studio backlot! 1/2

On 20 September 1870, General Raffaele Cadorna's artillery had opened a breach of about 30 metres in the Aurelian Walls, next to Porta Pia. Rome thus became part of the Italian State. 👉 turismoroma.it/en/page/septem… 📸 IG: virginiagaragnani 📸 IG: essepiquerre #VisitRome

Not 100% sure but I think I've found my first two coins of Aethelred II, AD 978-1016. Both cut farthings, although I think the first is a broken halfpenny. 1st one, possible mint if Bury St Edmunds, which is fantastic. Spink 1152. Still working on 2nd mint. Spink 1151.
