The NJ/NY rivalry goes back to the 1700s! The border with New York came about after a long argument, called the "border war" that was settled in 1769. This sign from a NJ tavern, c. 1800, represents the first expression of the rivalry - prosperous from NJ, downtrodden from NY.

Mosasaurus maximus was a huge marine reptile that lived in the shallow seas of New Jersey about 70 million yrs ago; this is one of its teeth! It came from an animal approximately the same size as the one hanging in our exhibition; both come from NJ’s Navesink Formation.
