When a tiny crowd-funded Indian website takes the pants off the scourge of the planet—Facebook—and the assorted assholes trying to put lipstick on a pig, it is a sight for the gods above and the frauds below. Meta Andy Stone

Powerful and inspirational journalism by The Wire on Meta's Xcheck programme. This is a continuing story of how a small, independent media can call truth to power in the face of extraordinary pressure. thewire.in/tech/meta-andy…

In the US, a huge mainstream newspaper The Wall Street Journal unravelled Facebook’s devious XCheck racket. In India, a tiny website has to do it all by itself, while media fatcats gloss over the dirty tricks—and count the blood-stained dollars flowing from FB sponsorship of crap “events”. Meta

The Editors of the Wire, Sidharth Varadarajan and M K Venu are two to be proud of. They were misled into a story for which they have expressed regret. They deserve better than the midnight knock. We stand by them

All democrats must share our deep concern over the Delhi police’s reported “search” of the residences & devices of The Wire’s Siddharth Varadarajan and M. K. Venu. What is the legal justification for targeting them? Amit Malviya’s over-the-top complaint?

Prashant Bhushan (@pbhushan1) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The Delhi Police is raiding Siddharth & M K Venu of The Wire on BJP IT cell chief FIR on a story that Wire had done about Facebook Censorship of posts flagged by Amit Malviya. There is absolutely no basis for this FIR & the raids are totally malafide; to harass indep media

Tunku Varadarajan (@tunkuv) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The Delhi Police Crime Branch just searched the house of my brother Siddharth & seized his phone & laptop. Why seize these when his publication has acknowledged/retracted a mistake? This seizure is repugnant in a democracy. Indians should raise their voices in fierce protest.

Strongly condemn the raiding of homes of Siddharth M K Venu Jahnavi Sen of The Wire by Delhi police . This is sheer harrassment and attack on the most important media voices in contemporary India . We stand with the most respected and fearless journalists of India .

Shashi Tharoor (@shashitharoor) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I agree w/ Tunku Varadarajan that the persecution of his brother Siddharth is unwarranted & has more to do with his fierce criticism of the government on a variety of issues than with any misdemeanour. Unless this kind of behaviour ceases, India will continue to get a bad name globally

The Wire's editors and staffers fully cooperated but placed on record that all devices and hard disks were sized without mentioning any hash value – a unique numerical value used to ensure the integrity of the device and its data. thewire.in/media/the-wire…

The Wire is a victim of criminal fraud by Devesh Kumar. it is not clear whether he was acting on his own or as part of a larger conspiracy. It is interesting that he was not named in Malviya's complaint and FIR. The sequence of events is as follows

A hostile government and the innate brutality of the police, a lethal combination for free fair fearless independent media. Solidarity with The Wire Siddharth M K Venu Sidharth Bhatia Jahnavi Sen and the entire team! Wire has spoken truth to power no less! #PressFreedom

re wire, stories on judge loya were countered by an ECG on the IE front page (uncritically cited by a number of reputed journos). it had the wrong date!, wasn't part of subsequent legal filings by govt. Who played the IE, who probed this, what happened to news room processes?
