Let's be absolutely clear what the Government's 'concessions' to the Welfare Bill mean: If you currently have a condition like Parkinsons or MS then you will get support to wash and cook for yourself. But someone diagnosed next year gets nothing. This is just utterly appalling.

When MPs vote on Tuesday, we're voting on whether to introduce a 4-point rule for PIP. That rule means disabled people who'll need help to go to the toilet, cut up food or wash can be denied PIP. If the Bill passes, the 4-point rule will be law, regardless of any PIP review.

Even with the concessions, the government's own analysis forecasts that 150,000 people could still be pushed into poverty by disability benefit cuts by the end of the decade. As Labour MPs, we didn't enter politics to make struggling constituents poorer. We must stop this Bill.

UPDATE: In a major u-turn, Keir Starmer has now scrapped the entire PIP section of the welfare bill. The Timms review will report back in autumn 2026 and, as it is being conducted with disability groups, is highly unlikely to opt for four-point eligibility criteria. This
