Andy Baxevanis ➜ @baxevanislab.bsky.social National Human Genome Research Institute Thanks Andy! And mark this down as another NIH HPC success story. All the assemblies ran there and the whole consortium relied on our Globus share, all during a pandemic. Hats off to them!

Congratz to Adam Phillippy and his #NIH National Human Genome Research Institute team, as well as their collaborators in the #T2T consortium, on this huge achievement! And, of course, the team at NIH HPC, who run the Biowulf #supercomputer that leant its massive computational power to this effort!

Using network storage for temp files is like making a new trip to the store for each ingredient in your sandwich. Reduce traffic 🚦. Use local scratch instead. hpc.nih.gov/docs/userguide… #TipTuesday

The user dashboard is your #Biowulf control room. See and request changes to your groups and disk quotas. Monitor your jobs and resource utilization. hpc.nih.gov/dashboard #TipTuesday

Your #biowulf job is coming up on its walltime limit, but it's not done yet 😬 What do you do? Use newwall to extend your walltime*! #TipTuesday *up to the partition time limit. other restrictions apply. see hpc.nih.gov/docs/userguide… for details

There are now 5000 papers #PoweredByBiowulf! 🥳 We're proud to support the NIH Intramural with this essential resource and looking forward to enabling many more papers to come. ☺️

Impressive! To learn about some of the ways that #NIH #COVID19 research in particular has been #PoweredByBiowulf, check out this piece on our "I Am Intramural" #blog: irp.nih.gov/blog/post/2020…

Do you have short ( < 4 hr) jobs that you want to start quickly on #Biowulf? Consider submitting to the 'quick' partition to get priority scheduling. #TipTuesday

You: I have a lot of samples to process. I’ll just run sbatch out of a for-loop, and then I— Us: No! Use a job array. Or even better, use swarm on #Biowulf. hpc.nih.gov/apps/swarm.html #TipTuesday #hpctips

NIH HPC (@nih_hpc) 's Twitter Profile Photo

If you have a lot of short (<5min) jobs, bundle them up to get a bulk discount on your scheduling time. swarm's --bundle option will group them into bundles & run each bundled command in succession within a single subjob. See hpc.nih.gov/apps/swarm.htm… #TipTuesday #hpctips

Be careful about loading modules and activating conda environments in your bashrc. It's nice to have all your tools at your fingertips when you log in, but they don't always integrate well with each other. Load only what you need when you need it. #TipTuesday

When your pipelines generate HTML reports on #biowulf, you don't have to copy all the results back to your desktop to catch a glimpse. Use hpcdrive to locally mount your hpc storage and browse directly to it. hpc.nih.gov/docs/hpcdrive.… #TipTuesday
