Hey look, you can now view (and download) the ToC and Chapter 1 from my forthcoming modeling book. This chapter provides something of a philosophical grounding before we get into the more technical weeds in the subsequent chapters. press.princeton.edu/books/paperbac…

Our new paper suggests that #GPT is a cheap, easy & effective tool for text analysis. We find that GPT (3.5 & 4) is able to detect psychological constructs (eg emotions) WAY better than dictionary methods across 12 languages! See paper for details: psyarxiv.com/sekf5/

Striking map from a new study by Lenton et al.: after 2.7 °C global warming the purple areas will basically be too hot to live. A billion people could be on the move to cooler lands. Guardian article: theguardian.com/environment/20… The study (open access): nature.com/articles/s4189…

'Beyond extreme' by definition. Ireland and the British Isles are at the epicentre of a major marine heatwave. We have not seen the North Atlantic look like this in modern records. Marine heatwaves are categorised from 1 to 5. There are hotspots hitting category 5.
